The Community Improvement Program is designed to assist Native low-income (less than 80% of AMI) families in the NANA region, which is consistent with NAHASDA and NIHA’s policies. In addition, NIHA shall comply with all applicable regulations of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and shall be updated periodically to reflect such compliance.
The Community Improvement Program policies are consistent with NIHA’s other programs such as Low-rent and Mutual Help, to ensure recipients are qualified and meet the requirements for assistance. This program is designed to address renovation, rehabilitation and improvements to our clients’ homes, as a grant. This program is grant funded and does not require a payback for services. This program is considered “community-wide” program, where all qualified recipients will receive assistance. In the event NIHA has to determine priority, please see the “priority process” listed below.
This program will be used as a guide for upcoming planning purposes. Applications will only be accepted as project(s) are being introduced into a planned program year. Community(ies) will be identified the year before the project occurs.
